Indonesia Liga 1
Formerly known as the ‘Indonesia Super League’, Indonesia Liga 1 is the country’s top-tier professional football league. The league is known for its extremely devoted fans. The Liga 1 2017 season has an average attendance of over 8,700 fans per game, with their highest turnout reaching over 36,000 fans.
The Indonesia League 1 is contested by 18 local clubs. The clubs in the league play a 2-round league format, resulting in each teams playing 34 matches per season. Liga 1 operates on a relegation and promotion system. The 3 clubs with the lowest standings will be relegated to Indonesia Liga 2 in the following season.
One league season typically concludes within one calendar year, though the months in which the season starts and ends has not been consistent. League games usually kick-off in the evening or at night time, and occasionally in the afternoon.

Indonesia Liga 2
Formerly known as the ‘Liga Indonesia Premier Division’, Indonesia Liga 2 is the country’s second-tier professional football league.
The league has yet to be consistent in their format. As of 2018, the format is such that it is contested by 24 teams divided into 2 groups – the East Region and the West Region. After each club has faced off against every club in their group, 3 clubs from each group with the lowest standings will be relegated to the Liga 3. 4 clubs from each group with the highest standings will be promoted to the second round where they will be grouped again into 2 groups – Group A and Group B. The 2 clubs with the highest standings from each group will then play in a knock-out round.

Indonesia Liga 3
Formerly known as ‘Liga Nusantara’, Indonesia Liga 3 is the country’s third-tier football league, played by amateur teams across the country.
The league has yet to be consistent with their format. As of 2018, the format is such that amateur teams will have to go through the first stage of the Liga 3 (‘Provincial Stage’), whereby teams compete against other teams from their own province. There are 34 provinces across the country. 24 team will then advance to the regional round to compete for a spot in the national round. Only 12 teams from the regional round will qualify for the National Round.
Teams that relegated from the previous Liga 2 season will play against each other, competing for a spot in the National Round. Only 20 of these teams will qualify to the National Round.
The National round is contested by 32 teams (12 teams from the regional round, 20 teams relegated from the previous Liga 3 series). The teams will be divided into 8 groups. After each team has played 2 legs against teams in their own groups, the 8 teams that accumulates the most points in their respective group stages will advance to the next round where they will be further divided into 2 groups of 4 teams. The 2 teams that accumulates the most points in their respective groups will face off to determine the 1st and 2nd place winners of the Indonesia Liga 3. The 2 runner-ups from each groups will face off to determine the 3rd and 4th place winners.
The first, second and third place winners from the Indonesia Liga 3 will be promoted to Indonesia Liga 2 in the following season.
